Some tips to help you start eating healthier in the new year:
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Make sure you are eating a variety of foods and colours (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats etc.)
Use less salt in your foods. Consuming too much salts can higher blood pressure, which can lead to stroke, heart and kidney disease.
Reduce refined sugars in your diet. Refined sugars have no nutritional value and contains zero calories. Instead try foods with natural sugars such as fruits.
Plan and prepare meals ahead of time so you avoid those grab and go processed foods and have healthy foods readily available.
Make sure you are eating enough fiber in your diet. Fiber is important to help avoid constipation and maintain a healthy cholesterol level. Foods such as fruits and vegetables, beans and lentils, nuts and seeds and oats and whole grains are all high in fiber.
Share meal times with friends and family. Socializing during mealtimes can make it more enjoyable, increase the persons intake and you also encourage others to eat healthy as well.
Overall, eating healthy does not mean removing the foods you love but increasing the healthy ingredients you add to them.
